21-Day-Fast Devotional - Day 18: Self-Reflection
Self-Reflection
written by Elder DErryck White
“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
Psalm 51:10
Self Reflection is a by-product of the diligent pursuit of God. I know that is a bold statement, but it is true. How can we self-reflect if we have ourselves in the center and as the focus? Self-reflection minus the diligent pursuit of God would be like a student creating their own final exam and being allowed to exclude whichever information they wanted. That exam would look very different from the professor’s.
David understood this and was called “A man after God’s own heart.” I believe that word “after” means in deep pursuit of God’s heart in him. Like all of us, he had his shortcomings but repented and got back to the diligent pursuit of God’s Heart. His self-reflection was reliant on God and at times that meant he dealt with being pursued, and battled depression and fear, but because the reflection was being refined to create a clean heart and renew a right spirit in him he made it back and moved forward. So his self-reflection could grow into the selfless reflection of God in him.
Prayer for today: Holy Spirit, help us to make room for You today. Not just any room Lord, but the main room of our hearts. That You would remain there unchallenged! Fill that place with power, healing, Your Words and clarity. In Jesus’ Name Amen!
Reflection Question: David took time to self-reflect, when was the last time you separated yourself from all the noise around you to give yourself to The Lord for a moment of self-reflection? God am I on Your path? Am I doing Your will? Is my heart aligned with Yours?
