21-Day-Fast Devotional - Day 03: Internalizing Scripture
Internalizing Scripture
written by Byron Suquilanda
“But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’ ”
Matthew 4:4
One of the hallmarks of God’s people is that God’s Word will be written on the tablets of our hearts. This is a promise to be fulfilled in its entirety at the glorification of our bodies. The Lord will supernaturally graft our consciousness with his Word. This will be an amazing step towards becoming His people as we continue to grow in His knowledge in eternity.
Just like the Tablets of the Law were introduced into the Arc of the Covenant, so his Law will become part of us as we become His living temple. Until our glorification, we have the privilege to work our way through the Word of God and internalize it dutifully and prayerfully.
We cannot become doer’s of the Word without first reading it and meditating on it. And our spiritual nourishment comes from His word; we cannot live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. His Word is joy. His Word is peace. His Word is life.
Internalizing the Word is about reading entire passages, chapters, and books but also about savoring a sweet truth contained in a few words for hours or even days at a time. I pray that in this season you are encouraged to pick up your Bible and taste and see that the Lord is good.
Reflection: How can you discipline yourself daily to internalize God’s scripture? If you already do so, what can you do to take your commitment to the next level?
