21-Day-Fast Devotional - Day 02: The Power of Prayer
The Power of Prayer
written by Ashley Tirado
Have you ever been frustrated with your prayer life? You feel like you pray and pray for something but God’s not answering the prayer the way you hoped.
Often we come to God with a prayer list of things that have been on our hearts but we haven’t considered what is the state of our hearts. Have we surrendered ourselves to the Lord and his will? Have we stopped to rest in Him and gather our directions from Him? John 15:7 says
“If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”
Here Jesus is reminding us that when we abide in Him and His Word, we will be able to move and pray in his will. Imagine the power in our prayer when we are one with the Holy Spirit and the will of God.
In Proverbs, we read “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” A verse like this can encourage and remind us that God’s perfect, pleasing will always wins. Our hearts may have desires that do not align with the Lord’s, but when we abide in Him, we will be able to test and approve what God’s will is for our lives and our prayers.
We know we can trust the Lord because God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Our prayers are that more powerful when we are in total surrender and agreement with Him. God is working on our behalf when His children rest easy in Him. One of the most amazing things about our God is that he simply wants to be in unison with us, to humble ourselves and hold onto His power- not our own. In this state, we will have the confidence to pray not our will, but His will. Now imagine the power in that!
