21-Day-Fast Devotional - Day 07: Forgiveness

Forgiveness

written by Jesus Torres

“Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends.”

Proverbs 17:9

In the year 2020, my father passed away at the age of 53. I thought I had plenty of time left with him on this earth. Unfortunately, his time on earth was done. Let’s talk about time for a bit. Time is something you can’t avoid and you can never get back. What would I give to have just 1 minute with my father? I would give anything to spend more time with him. I think back at a time where I had held unforgiveness towards my father. I’ve wasted 131,400 minutes not speaking with him because of unforgiveness.

So many of us believe that by not forgiving those who hurt us, we have power over them and are putting them in a jail cell of what they did wrong. Little do we know, we are the ones putting ourselves into a jail cell. Bars cover our hearts with the names of bitterness, sadness, and depression.

Jesus knows the power of forgiveness. It’s no mistake that he speaks of forgiveness so many times in the gospel. Jesus teaches us through the Lord's prayer that to seek forgiveness we must also forgive those who have sinned against us. Even in his dying breath, he asks the father to forgive us for we do not know what we do. Jesus knew that forgiveness is very important because as humans, we are created in the image and likeness of God. God is a God of relationships, reconciliation, and connection. We cannot have these things with unforgiveness in our hearts. Seek forgiveness and give forgiveness.

So many minutes with loved ones are being thrown away because of unforgiveness. Love prospers when faults are forgiven. Choose Love!
